From Space to Place explores an allotment area on Skeppstadsholmen, a headland of 325,000 sqm at the entrance to Gothenburg’s harbor. The area was inaugurated in 1924 and was named Torslanda Havsbadskoloni. Previously a barren islet on the outskirts of the city that was considered strategically unusable, today a lush urban idyll on leased land in an attractive and expansive part of Gothenburg. For generations, people have come here and together created a common history. Through various photographic methods interwoven with archival material and oral stories, several narratives are created that are put into dialogue with each other and construct different understandings of the inner and outer influence of a microcosm. The project consists of several parts, Archive stories, The Border, The Key and the Barrier, The Remnants, Souvenirs and Off Season. Some of them are represented on this website.
